Wonderful One Of Seven!

The Grand Canyon! How can I describe it? Amazing, beautiful, prefect, vast, unbelievable, wonderful! This canyon is definitely a gift from God because there is absolutely no way man could have created it.

We went on a tour of the southern rim and were basically speechless because what we've seen or read did not come anywhere near depicting the wonder we experienced. I can't believe I've waited so long to visit, but glad that I chose to include it in my vacation this.year. It was really a humbling experience standing on the rim looking out and down the grand canyon. It was a reminder of how small everyday issues are in the big scheme of things. My God is much bigger than any challenge I may have or come across because He is awesome. I am thankful for that and my Grand Canyon adventure.

One More Year!

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and it's my birthday! LOL! I am feeling good and silly because life is good and I just got to experience one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

I have been blessed with one more year of life and for that I am thankful. God has been very good to me and I appreciate every bit of it. My hope is that I live a life that He will be pleased with and one that will cause others to seek Him.

We are on our way home from our Hoston / San Antonio / Grand Canyon road trip and I haven't had to drive all day! :-) I guess it's because it's my birthday.

I have been treated to time off from work, a pretty incident free road trip (not counting the fact that I forgot to pickup my rent-a-car before they closed), my brother Gregory rolling with me, visiting my brother Ted and his adorable family including my nephew Tyrell and niece Shaniah, visiting my dear friends Annie and Felicia, meeting my friend Eric's father Mr. Mccullough, Eric joining us at the Grand Canyon, and exploring the Grand Canyon! I am thankful for an incredible birthday vacation!

#1 Road Trip Tip

Do not drink 5 Hour Energy Drink followed by Cheetos Puffs. Not a good combination! These two do not mix well! Please avoid!

Leaving Houston

On my last day in Houston, I awoke to the sound it rain. I'm wondering if it's still burning up outside. I'm getting up to pack and get on the road again. We're headed to the Grand Canyon and should be there before noon tomorrow to pick up Eric from the train station. Hopefully we'll be able to get an early check-in so we can rest before we start exploring

I am off and on the road again! Texas was fun and a real treat!

The adventure continues!

San Antonio - Chinese, Murray & Latte

After my ride, I drove to San Antonio to visit Felicia, a dear, old friend.   I think it's been about 1 1/2 years since she moved here.  It was definitely a treat to see her and her family!  Since I got a late start with riding, it delayed my trip to Felicia's.  We spent time catching up,  talking about what's next, eating sushi and laughing.

Since I was in San Antonio I was planning to visit my friends father, but wasn't sure when. Felicia had to do an errand, so I took the opportunity to visit Mr. Mccullough.  Both him and his wife are sweethearts and they seem to live very busy lifestyles for Mr Mccullough to be retired.  And guess what Mr. Mccullough has?  And ol' school red Murray bike that he rides.  My cycling friend Eric got it honest!  Two of these photos reminds me of Eric.  One shows that Eric's brother Pat might just be his fathers clone!  The resemblance is unbelievable.

After hanging with the Mccullough's I headed back to Felicia's for some more catching up and Chinese food. Dinner was tasty and I had a very happy stomache.  Felicia's has a cute dog named Latte who gets excited when they have visitors.  Well Latte got excited and licked my leg!  That  was disgusting! Lol!

Bear Creek

Part of my reasoning for doing a road trip was so that I could bring my bike and continue training while on vacation. Well...yesterday I had every intention of getting up early and being on the road by 7:00am so I could ride for at least 2 hours without passing out from the heat and humidity. I woke up, but couldn't manage to get up until around 7:00am. Buy the time I got it together it was after 8. I open the door to head out and I was instantly covered in sweat from the humidity! Thoroughly disgusting! I road up Highway 6 to Bear Creek Park and back for 27 miles in exactly 2 hours. I felt like I rode for about 6 hours with all the humidity in 86 degrees! Not cool at all! My plan was to do a long ride today, but I just can't really see that happening with this humidity and since it's 4:00am and I'm still up blogging :-( Oh well...Everything doesn't always work out as planned.

Yay! The First Day Of Summer!

Happened to be my nephew Tyrell's 15th birthday. We enjoyed a really late country breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, then the kids played checkers, and we spent quite a bit of time determining which nostalgic candies and games or toys to buy.

Then we headed to Fun Tiki fun center where the kids played video games and we raced go karts. That was really fun and I think the kids enjoyed themselves.

After dropping them off, we changed and headed to Sugarland Plaza for dinner with Annie and her friends. We listened to Annie reminisce about the time I took her to Natura, the Korean spa! It was hilarious because the Koreans spa a little different than we do! I enjoyed my old friend and was glad to see her adjusting and happy in her new home.

Sweetest!

The sweetest treat of my road trip was to see my brother Ted and niece Shaniah standing on their porch welcoming us to Houston after a long, hot 33 hours on the road!  When I saw their faces and received my hugs, that beat any vacation I could have had being pampered at a 5 star resort chilling on powdered white sand!  This year I am thankful for a loving family.

Some of life's greatest adventures cost little to nothing, but are priceless.  Enjoy them all as often as possible.

Sleeping In Denny's Parking Lot

Yes, I was getting tired once we made it into Deming, New Mexico so I took an hour and a half nap in the Denny's parking lot.

When I'm driving at night, I usually drink a Dr Pepper and eat sunflower seeds, but when I was buying my soda I saw the 5 Hour Energy Drink.  So guess what I'm on?  Yes!  But I only drank half because I was scared it would have me freaking out our something. LOL!  I'll let you know how well it works when I get to El Paso in about 65 miles.

Oh, I got a bug bite on my eyebrow!  Now just how sexy is that!

The Giants!

This morning my sister La Shun called on my way to work and told me as she dropped off one of her kids at school and was driving the other to his, that they went through a very woodsy-type neighborhood with lots of big trees. Her youngest son Mason made a comment about the trees and it reminded her of my trip to the red wood forest up north, so she shared it with Mason. Well, Mason is only 4 years old so of course he couldn't get his mind around the fact that there are huge trees with trunks wider than cars. She wanted me to send her my picture of the giant tree that had a cut out big enough for a car to drive through.

I hadn't thought about that trip is years. It was actually 10 years ago next week. I went to the De Haven Valley Farm Bed & Breakfast in northern California for my 29th birthday. I flew into Oakland, got a rental car and headed north to the farm (which only had a horse, a dog and I think a cow) through the red wood forest. It was an unbelievably beautiful road trip. Once I got into the forest, the trees were so tall and full, they blocked out most of the sunlight. Then I got nervous when I realized I had no cell phone reception or any idea just how far it would be until I would get it again. Fortunately I didn't need it. Once I got out of the forest I ended up looking at ocean. It was the weirdest feeling after being surrounding by giants and a quiet darkness. The farm was located where the red woods meet the ocean, and I think that was the tag they used to get me to visit. The view from the balcony off my room was of both the forest and the ocean. The breakfast was delicious, and I believe that was the first time I had crepes. I've been hooked since!

I spent the days hanging around the beach or the neighboring towns shops. Then I went to see the giant red woods. I was amazed that a tree could grew so tall you had to bend backwards to see the top of it, and so wide that a car can drive through it! I meet an older couple there who were riding a motorcycle. I think they were from Nevada. I took a photo with the wife and we were sitting in the base of a fallen tree, and another one of me standing in a tree trunk with my arms out stretched and I'm not touching either side of the tree. In the photo there is a car behind me about to drive through the trunk! Talk about God's amazing creations! This is indeed a wonderful example!

Enjoy the adventure!

Finally, I've Started My Own Blog!

YAY!

I've taken my own advice that I've given to friends and started my own blog to track the many adventures of my simple life.

I'm on a life long journey to explore as much of the world as possible, be it by plane, train, boat, car, bike, foot, SCUBA or any other way I discover. Lately it's been by bike, but coming this weekend it will be by car on my road trip down south. I'll update some of my most significant adventures throughout this summer and am looking forward to sharing some new wonderful adventures with you.

Thanks for joining me on my journey!
